What is appropriate to wear to this?

The company I work for is doing an ‘expo’ of sorts this weekend for home-based businesses. Tonight I am going with the owner of my company to a ‘meeting’ with the rest of the people doing the show this weekend. DO I need to dress up? Or can I get away with a nice pair of jeans and a dressy top? I’m currently pregnant and dont have a lot of maternity clothes right now and Im pretty limited- so im wondering if i can get away with my nice dark new maternity jeans and a nice maternity top and dress it all up with some accessories and shoes?????
and the expo isnt a big stuffy event- they are having a cash bar and live bands etc….. dont know if that will help at all
Elizabeth I totally understand! I’m plus size also- so i’ve got two whammies against me now- plus size and pregnant!

I just wanted to make sure- i got in trouble once at an old job for wearing a shirt my bosses deemed ‘too casual’ even though it was the exact same shirt another co-worker had and would wear. I was so mad- she was allowed to wear hers. I learned a harsh lesson that day- that because of my weight i was treated different with what i can and cannot wear. I had to swallow the pill and learn that i always have to do it up ‘one more notch’ to make up for the weight- in a wierd way… i couldnt get away with the same things ‘skinny’ girls could as ‘business casual’….

Jeans and a dressy top are a great idea, especially since you said the jeans are a dark wash (adds a touch of sophistication) Yes, do accessories and spend a few extra minutes on hair and make up (but not over the top) Being pregnant gives you a bit of a break as far as anyone being too critical on your appearance, however, what you are choosing to wear would look nice even if you weren’t pregnant.

Good luck and have fun!

    Yes, that sounds completely appropriate.
I went to a similar soundsing event a few weeks ago and wore nearly the same thing – with cute shoes and earrings! haha, I am overweight so i [kind of] know the feeling of feeling limited in your wardrobe.

But, anyways, no worries, you’ll look great – and probably cuter than the other girls there!

    Good luck sweetie!

    Hi There,

Based off your description of the event, the casual atmosphere, and the fact that your business is home-based it is a safe bet to go the "business casual" route.

Dark jeans will work great. Your top will need to reflect a few things: smart, sophisticated, capable and understated. A crisp white button up maternity blouse would be a great example of this – but anything that conveys business (not pleasure) will work. A smart pair of shoes (not sandals or sneakers) will pull it all together. Don’t over accessorize with too much jewelry – draw attention to your business savvy and not your earrings.

Finally, you have a bit of a fashion ‘get out of jail free’ card since you are pregnant. Most people understand that it’s not easy finding great maternity clothes (but it is getting better).

    Hope this helps!
