What is the best way to advertise your home based business?

I want to try different and unique ways to advertise like no one else on a tight budget. Can you give me some differnt ideas that might help. I have business cards. And post flyers. What am I doing wrong. Even ad in newspaper. Some good results but think it all could be better. Thank you for your time in advance.
My home based business is Melaleuca the wellness company. Products made with Melaleuca oil (Tea Tree oil) And natura fruit extracts instead of harsh chemicals.

The trend today is that public relations is already replacing advertising since it is more effective and less costly. Here are a few suggestions to promote your home-based business without spending too much on advertising space:

1) Try asking the editor of your local newspaper to feature your products. Make sure you send them pictures of your products. A feature article will cost less than an ad space in their paper.

2) Sponsor local community events that offer their sponsors a free booth in which to display their products. This way you establish a presence in your community.

3) Organize events yourself, maybe something environmental (given your product) such as tree-planting, or an art exhibit showcasing nature. Then get journalists to attend your event and publish it in the local papers. Make sure that your company name and products are given prominence (in the backdrop, souvenir programs, banners) during the event.

Try a short ad on radio. If it’s a computer based business, try Yahoo Search Marketing on the net. I have a house cleaning business and I’ve tried flyers, cards and newspaper ads with little results so I know what you mean. What worked the best for me may not be legal. I put my business card in every mail box on the block. Word got around and I got a few new customers. Good Luck!

What kind of business is it? Word of mouth is the best advertising possible. Get all of your friends and family to swear that they’ve used your company and you gave them everything they needed and more.

If that fails – hire a sky writer!

I used radio with little luck and I put ads in paper every week and did ok! I posted, put in retail stores or sent out flyers bi-weekly and did ok!(1000 flyer bi-weekly I got better than 5 to 6 % cold call return from them)
Then one day I was thinking what else I could do and BAMM it hit me I started to sponser local teams, scouts, school kids I was promoting others while I promoted myself! And I financed this by putting on select seminars and instructional classes while I charged a small fee! I am not sure your buisness is one you can teach others or would want to but it helped me out! I guess what my point is I became involved with my community and my name became common! sorry long winded!

Lucky, the answer depends on what your business is. So can you post that in your question?

I can tell you one thing. If you create your own business cards, people won’t take your business seriously.
