Can I use a Georgia small business license in California?

I have a valid small business license in Georgia, but I’m moving to California and would like to take my business with me. I want to start my business right away for financial reasons, but because of California’s current financial situation, they say it can take 6 to 8 weeks to receive a license after applying. I will retain a residency in Georgia for several months after the move, so technically still a resident. I’ve searched online, but can’t find a definitive answer. Thank you.
Thank you for the responses. I know how expensive California is, we are from the area and are moving back because of family issues. As for the business, we are not incorporated. It is a small data collection business run out of our home. Being close to the state line in Georgia, we have done business in South Carolina, so I’m curious if that is the case if we were to do business in California on a temporary basis until paperwork goes through. Everything I’ve read corresponds with what I’ve found on the web, but I’m curious to see what others say on the topic. Thanks.

No. But you may need a local permit/license from the city/county where you plan to live and operate the business.

Check the SBA website for details about operating a business from your home. You probably already know this.

You will be required to get a license in the city where your home based business is located and may also need to file with the CA Franchise Tax Board for a permit or license.

I don’t know where you are locating in CA; however, the city of Huntington Beach website has a section on "home occupation business permits" and might give you some insight as to what you need to do where ever you locate. You will find other useful info there as well.

The city you are relocating to may also have a website.

your query "seems" to be a loaded one.

there are biz licenses and there are biz licenses.

for example; john doe’s grocery store, or clothing store, is not regulated per se and the city
    just wants their "action,"

real estate brokerages, doctor’s offices, law offices etc, are all state regulated and need
no biz license separate from the state’s license.

NO biz license is transferable from state to state………….but, most everything else is.

MOST customers don’t’ give a hoot about your license
so, I am curious what Type of biz you are "moving."

if you were an LLC or corp, you can temporarily get a proprietorship license in 1 day
from your city and you can concurrently file with the state for a new registration for
a "foreign corp" which takes 4 weeks–where in you JUST file the papers and run 4 legal
    announcements.

Thus, I am not sure what license you have to wait so long to get. The LLC and corp is not
a license per se, it is a state filing for a structure of a business, the biz license is a different
    step [one day]

I can guide you further. DEPENDING what biz you are operating, you could be either ready to
operate tomorrow morning, OR have to wait 1 mo…………..depending on what your answers are
    to what I shared above.

    can guide further

Business licenses are handled by each community. If you just have a regular office type company, it will take you = about 1 hour to get a business license.
    – fill out the paperwork and wait in line.

If you need special certification or some kind of building permits, it will take longer.
    – no, you can’t use your GA permit in CA.

In California, at a minimum you will need:
    – DBA
    – Business License
    – Resale license, if you sale resale
    – and special certifications for your business, if any.

Your Georgia corporation can operate in California, but you will have to register with California as a "foreign corporation". See the link in "sources" and look for the section that provides a link to information on foreign corporations. That will provide you with all the forms and information you need to register your Georgia corp in California.

Be advised there may be tax consequences to doing this, i.e. having to pay both California and Georgia tax on any income made in Cali since you would be operating as a foreign corp. Thats a question for a tax professional.
