I am currently in school to be a travel agent. The goal was to be a home based travel agent and have my own business. I currently work in a travel agency sorta its limited to cruises, tours, resorts etc. Its a large call center and the commision SUCKS anywhere from 5.00 per booking to 50.00 per booking making min wage on top of that. I want my own I just got done working 4 years in the airline industry and I am familiar with the computer programs for delta continental and jet blue I also worked in a hotel reservation center best western for a year when i was younger. Are there any opportunities out there or am I wasting my time. Travel industry is my passion and im willing to give it my all just not sure what offers are legit and which are scams. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks guys

Home based travel agents need a "captive clientele" such as members of their large church, for example.

It is very difficult to market your services if you do not have an office. It is also very hard to succeed as an independent travel agent as most people now book on line.

I’m sorry to tell you that this is not a good field to enter, especially in this economy.
