TANSTAAFL: There Ain’t No Such Thing As a Free Lunch. If you don’t have money to invest, then someone else will have to put it up on your behalf. Why would they do that? If you put a good bit of labor into the project before you make a profit, perhaps. If you have a good credit rating, and the franchiser decides to sell the package on consignment, perhaps. But any time you start a home-based business, you have to be very sure you know where all the money goes, because generally it goes to the guy one step higher on the pyramid than you are. And you will have to hustle; most are selling in one form or another, and you will need to work at it, not expect customers to come pounding on your door. Also, don’t ever try to sell a product you don’t believe in; restrict yourself to things you use personally, and can honestly recommend as a good product at a decent price. You simply cannot count on pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes, let alone enough people to make a profit.

If you are referring to those ads that promise thousands of $$$ per week stuffing envelopes, assembling products, etc., the answer is a resounding "no." On the other hand, if you have accounting or bookkeeping skills, and can find doctors, dentists, psychotherapists, etc., who will trust you to do their billing from your home, you may find some success that way. But the old adage remains true: if it sounds too good (or too easy) to be true, it probably is.
