Need Solid Ideas for a Home-based Business?

I’m looking for good ideas on what type of home-based business to start-up. I’ve was recently "laid off" but I have funds put aside. Really, I don’t wish to go back to working for someone else. I would like to hear about some solid, proven, home business or perhaps franchises that can be run from home maybe a computer/internet based service business. No MLM, affiliates programs, pyramid schemes or anything of the sort.

Ideas that have crossed my mind:

Blogging (I live in a tourist town and thought there might be opportunity in providing info about events in town).
Online tutoring (Spanish, software programs like Photoshop).
Domain name selling (like a reseller)
Web site building (would have to learn web design first)
Virtual Office Assistant.
Video Resume Service

I’m not sure which path to take right now but I’m looking for good solid ideas and I’ll take this "time off" to research ’em and follow what looks like it may lead some where.

Thanks everyone.

I understand what you mean as I have just recently been put into the same boat. I recently got laid off and now our 2 income family is down to 1 income. My husband and I started a business early in January and even though we made back our initial investment (and more), we haven’t had the proper time to devote to the business until now. I love being able to work from home and have time for my family. Things were little slow the first week and a half but now that I’ve been working at it I’m doing a little better and progressing. There’s no pie in the sky and no get rich quick scheme here but with persistence and some work we are on our way to building a family business that’s will-able, transferable, and sell-able (if we choose). I love it because I can leave it to my son and his children and their children. I hope my response helped you in some way. Feel free to reply! http://www.DeliveringOnThePromise.com/HealthyAndWealthy

Almost all successful marketing stories has the common element of having an organized and effective marketing plan, which serves as the backbone for the product or service life cycle.Often a small affiliate
business that started with the premise of providing a little extra income ends up out-performing one’s regular income.

I think you have already listed the required measures thar you should take.

It seems to me quite helpful for start-up.

    Thanks

I’ve recently got into affiliate marketing. Not exactly making big money yet, but I have made some sales even though I have not been in it long. There is a lot to learn, and I have been reading a lot on forums like Warrior Forum.

To build my sites, I use http://acesitecreator.com/ since it is so fast, easy and does not require website building experience to use.

Unless you come up with some new idea though, anything you do is going to be competitive with the economy the way it is any so many who want to work from home..
