    you didn’t say if you are in the USA or elsewhere, you didn’t say what type of business you wanted to start, you didn’t tell us if you have the experience in that field or not, etc. so we can’t determine for you which way to go. I’d say "no" do not use retirement funds to start a home business. I would suggest though that you do the five year plan to see if you’ll be in that business five years from now. If you have questions about starting a business call SCORE (retired people who have been in business when younger) at the Small Business Administration in your city.
