If you have a website or not the best way is social media. Start accounts with sites like Facebook and Twitter. Start networking with people and building relationships. Don’t post spam as this will just scare people away. If you do not have one I would suggest making a website soon. Having a web presence is important depending on what kind of business you are running. If you had more info on what kind of business you have I could help you more.

Right, really, I need to know what sort of business you have and who your target audience is, then I’d be able to give you a better answer.
As another poster said, Social Networking Sites are a good way to get your business out there. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn & Myspace all work wonders. However, it can be time consuming trying to work all 3 at once, so I would recommend picking at least 2. My favourites for business are: Facebook & Twitter. Make sure you manage each SNS correctly, and form relationships with your friends/followers. Don’t become a ‘robot’ and advertise your products. Ask them questions, talk to them etc. Customers will part with their money if they know they’re dealing with nice people.
Word of Mouth is also a good way to market your business. Tell your friends & family, and ask them to recommend you to their friends.
Pick up some free business cards from Vistaprint (you only pay for the postage), customize it to suit your business and then hand these to people you know, people you meet (it’s important to spread the word about your business as much as possible). But don’t act cocky – always, always be friendly.
Talk to local companies in your area that are in the same or similar sector as you and ask to do a business card/leaflet exchange with them. Make sure that they are NOT your competition.
You should also think about a promotional offer, as this will entice customers in.
