I have a home based business. Do I need any type business license in the state of Texas?

It is computer consulting business that I do out of my house. I have already established the S corp and have a TIN.

What type of business. Sales tax permit is what all businesses need. If you make food, or run a daycare, or many other types, there may be specific permits you need.

**Edit…

Shouldn’t be any additional permits required except the sales tax. You may want to register a DBA with the state if you aren’t doing business in your own name. There also may be franchise taxes for operating a corporation in the state. Probably best to check with a CPA on the tax issues.

It would be helpful to know more about the business. You didn’t state what you do, how much you make and how big a portion of your income it is. If you are really small and just make a little side income, I wouldn’t worry probably. The bigger issue isn’t so much a license (again I have no idea what you do) but if you don’t deal in anything requiring a special license, you should at least look at setting up an LLC or incorporating to protect you from legal liability. It may also be an issue for when you do taxes for your business. Without more details, that’s the best I can do on advice.
