Why is it that network marketing is so powerful in the most advanced USA but not in 3rd world?

Networking is so powerful as a home based business in USA and its protestant-dominated allies. But in the 3rd world countries it has a bad image? Like the Philippines, the First Quadrant became a Lost Quadrant? Why?
