I need help starting home based pastry business how can i start?

I want to start baking and decorating cakes to sell, but I don’t know how to decorate them and I have limited income and supplies. How do I get started?

Take some classes. Then get a job in a bakery working under someone else. You might not even like the business.

I’m in pastry school now and it is a very expensive business to start up especially if you want people to actually like eating your products. If you want to be successful, you should take some classes; check your local supermarket to see if they offer some or make some high-end bakeries near you. Cooking schools offer recreational classes for a small fee and they even have ones of how to start a business. Good luck.

First thing you need to find out is if you have pastry chef fingers. Some people have them and some people don’t . I don’t .
I took four semesters of baking in school and I quickly discovered that I don’t have the innate talent needed to be a pastry chef.
I have it in my head But it doesn’t translate to my fingers.
The next thing you need to do is see if your local community college has culinary arts program that offers baking and whether that program allows you to take just the classes you need and possibly get a certificate rather than a degree
There are five classes you need
Baking 1 -yeast breads , yeast doughs croissants, danishes, basic baking skills
    Baking 2 basically cakes
    Baking 3 Wedding Cakes
    How to Run Bakery
Food Service Sanitation-See if you can do that in summer school bc you will need it
You may also want to buy a copy of Professional Baking by Wayne Gisslen
You don’t need the latest edition but used ones can be scarce bc students tend keep them for their personal library’s
You may also want to contact Wiley Publishing who publishes some great books for the food service professional
If you live in the Chicago area your problems are solved because COD has a great baking program
