Can you start a home based business from someone else’s home?

I want to start my own business from home (candles) but I live in an apartment complex. Would I be able to start the business from my mother in laws house? Thanks!
I know all the zoning rules… but am I legally able to fill out the paperwork as MY business even though I do not reside there?

as a hobby, to make a few $, sure. YOU may not put up signs, store inventory, etc.

zoning!!

You can put it where you like as long as you do not make it bad for the people around you. No different than a lot of other people selling stuff. Get your stuff together and go to flea markets and craft shows.

I do believe you could use her address, you may not be able to use her house to deduct some business expenses but if you look at people who start a business from a store front, you are basically doing the same thing.

As long as you got your mother in laws permission that is possible. That what matters most than paper work you did.

Hi! First off I would suggest using your own address to register your business, especially if you’re filing as a sole-proprietor. After you register your business address you can operate your business from anywhere, so if you want to use your mother-in-law’s house, you can. I would suggest paying your mother-in-law a small fee for using her house. She can provide you with a copy of her monthly rent/mortgage payment and deduct your payments for using her house. Pay her with a check (from whatever checking account you use for your business) and keep the receipts she provides you with for your payment (including the copy of rent/mortgage invoice), for your records.

Make sure to check with your state for any other regulations you may need to comply with. You can check on my website for free resources for entrepreneurs (http://free-stuff-for-me.blogspot.com/2011/02/free-stuff-for-entrepreneurs.html)! Good luck!
